The Interiano family wants you to experience Mexican and Central American hospitality every time you step into El Potro Mexican Bar and Grill. Conveniently located at Chelseaâs Mystic Mall, the big dining room and outdoor patio has plenty of parking for their guests. Brightly colored walls complement hand-carved furniture from Mexico.
The energy around the large U-shaped bar is festive with boisterous music and a dozen televisions featuring Boston and national sports. With complimentary chips and homemade salsa, as well as a vast selection of tequilas and margaritas. The menu is centered on familiar dishes like enchiladas, fajitas, steak, burritos and nachos. El Potroâs portions are generous, and entrees are accompanied by creamy refried or black beans, rice and tortillas.
The Interianosâ story is a familiar one in Chelsea. Elias and Juana Interiano arrived in the US as hardworking immigrants from El Salvador. They got their start by picking tomatoes and washing dishes. After years in the restaurant business working for other people, the Interianos opened their first restaurant in Somerville in 2006. Their goal was to offer authentic Mexican and Central American food prepared from family recipes using fresh ingredients. They continue to refrain from mixes or ready-made ingredients.
The business has grown locally to four locations, including Somerville, Chelsea, Lowell and Malden. The next generation of the family, son Jason Interiano, is one of the general managers. He poses the same drive of his parents and is dedicated to creating or better opportunities for their family for years to come.
El Potroâs kidsâ menu will occupy the little ones while you enjoy your evening out and allows for true family dining experience. El Potro also offers take-out, catering, and is available for private events.
